I have read some people see a big boost. The PowerPrep software for the GRE is probably your best (free) tool for determining how you will do a second time unless you have seen all the questions before. I haven't taken the GRE yet, but when I was in high school, I scored 50 points higher (out of 800) on my second attempt on the quantitative section of the SAT and 100 points higher on the verbal. So my combined score went from 1210 to 1360 in exactly 5 months.

BTW, you may also want to use the old PowerPrep software for the quantitative GMAT exam as a way to get new math questions to study with:
