A) humility..absurdity
B)excellence...mediocrity
C)anger...confrontation
D)conformism....singularity
E)ostentation...eccentricity
You can eliminate A,B,C because the second word doesn't fit "unlike their neighbours". "Ostentation" means expressive display of wealth or pretentious display of st. If the Gibsons were "little given to Ostentations" then that means they DON'T display their excessive eccentricity. That's not what the sentence means.

If they're NOT afraid to display their singularity (uniqueness) then they shouldn't care about Conformity. Thus, D is your answer.
