Sorry for the late reply.
Well, to be honest, when I lived in Brazil and heard people translating "informatica" as "informatics," I thought they were wrong, but I've come to find out that at least my alma mater, George Mason, uses the term informatics, so it would seem that the name used by each university could be different.
Different schools choose different names for a very funny reason--each school is trying to choose the very best name, and of course, everybody's different. Thus the different names.
