In your first analogy--> MEANDERING : DIRECTNESS ,why it cant be "aboveboard : openness" Because something that is aboveboard, is honest and lacks openness.
Open means-->Susceptible; vulnerable: open to interpretation; an issue that is open to question
In case of "digression : conciseness" it is not necessary that digression lacks "conciseness". Statment can still be concise but it could digress, meaning not relevant to the main point.
