In my case the tourist visa was fairly easy to obtain. I told the interviewer whyI was going, he also asked how I was supporting myself while in the USA and asked about my family ties. That's pretty much it. I was not married and had no children, but I did own a house and had a job. The interview took about 10 minutes and passport with visa arrived in mail 3 days later.
