Well there are TA's, Ra's, Ga's which help out students if they want a fee waive for their tution fees. Ta's are teaching assistantships where students are supposed to teach undergraduates / correct papers etc.. ra's are research assistantships where you would have to help in research in a particular project, graduate assistanships are usual jobs in the university like working in the library, cafeteria.

Ta's are given by the department, Ra's are given by the professor who is in charge of a particular project. Ga's are given by the university , you need to search for open positions.

If you get any one of them usually you need to pay only the in state tution fees rather than the out state tution fees, which is usually 10,000$ more than the in state tution fees.
