As a former District Pharmacy Manager I can shed some light on this issue.
First and foremost, do not look at someone's payscale in a different state. Pay is variable depending on location. California residents get paid the best. Dallas gets paid very well too, whereas El Paso TX has much lower wages.
You need to compare apples to apples.
Time and a half for overtime is required in California if you are an "Hourly employee". In that state you have the choice if you want to be hourly or salary.
Pharmacy is considered a "Profession" by the IRS and is therefore not required to be paid 1.5 x hourly income for overtime.
Some pharmacy's do pay that amount, but are not required to.
Target pays salary + 20$/hr.
Wal-mart pays salary + 10$/hr.
Walgreens pays 1.5 X base pay.
Sam's is the same as Wal-mart for pay.
Large cities with Pharmacy schools tend to be paid at a lower rate than cities without pharmacy schools. (Hence Dallas is highly paid).
If you want to know what to expect, then call the pharmacy's and ask what they make. Some pharmacists will not give you their pay but will tell you what you should expect to receive. If you know the pharmacist then they will tell you everything.
CVS & Eckerd typically pay near the top of the scale (They also have the most stress involved working there).
Wal-mart, Sam's, Costco etc fall in the midrange.
Walgreens pays typically 2 to 3 dollars less per hour, but make up for it with awesome benefits.
The bottom of the barrell in terms of pay is Hospitals, Indian, Government, Independents, & Nuclear Pharmacy.
