Re: EE admissions for ...

I don't know where the "tier" business come from, but I know US news uses the terminology in their rankings. Tier 1 is the highest (Stanford, UC-B, MIT) and Tier 4 is the lowest. Can anyone else add to this??

Re: EE admissions for ...

I have to say if you can get GRE V up. You have a great chance at Stanford since EE master is relatively easy to get in for master program. UCB and other public schools are actually harder. If you are talking PhD, it's a very different game.

Hello GMATbong, I got very similar scores to bigredx24x and am applying to Stan and UCB CS PhD. May I know my chances? And why are public schools harder?

I think it's because public California schools (mostly the UC system) have been reducing the number of international student admits recently. Funding to the UC system has been cut by quite a bit by governor Arnold Schwarzeneggar.

Cool Re: EE admissions for ...

My status (all MS/PhD in EE):

DREAM
-------------------------------
Stanford (heard nothing / can't check status)
UC - Berkeley (heard nothing / can't check status)
UIUC (heard nothing / can't check status)

REALISTIC (but still awesome!)
-------------------------------
UC - San Diego (heard nothing / can't check status)
University of Maryland - CP (official status: Pending Decision")
University of Texas - Austin (heard nothing / can't check status)

SAFETY (but looking more like "realistic")
----------------------------------------
UC - Irvine (heard nothing / can't check status)
Ohio State (official status: "In Academic Review")

Re: EE admissions for ...

Hehe, so you found it I think you can also check your UIUC app. status online (haven't applied there but I know they use the same system as UIC and they have online status).
