Hey guys. If a school Invites you (pays for your plane ticket, hotel and meals) to attend their recruitment weekend, does it pretty much mean you are in?
Why would they spend all this money on you if they were not going to admit you? Anyone ever heard of this?

Usually that means they are not only admitting you, but they are about to give you TA/RA ship as well. They only invite strong candidates.

hmmm...what if they invite you and then you don't go....can you still get TA/RA?

Althought the admission is confirmed, to check for a major inconsistency, they might want to see that the candidate isn't VERY different from what they frame out of his application packet.

One of my guesses; I don't have any knowledge about any school's policy.

that's a tough nut to crack...I will soon interview at a university (only thing I can tell you is that it's among the 3 top-ranked CS)....they have a 3-day visit program and are paying for every single thing.....

I have no idea what to expect at the interview....if anyone here has ever interviewed for Ph.D. admission, please post your experiences.

well, there are not many options considering your profile

I think you should ask pavi_2602 who was accepted for Bioinformatics at Yale since it requires interview for its bbs program

The visit is mainly for the professor to get a chance to probe your qualifications. They want to see if your interest matches their research or not. Usually the department will figure out afterwards who to give the TA to (ie. those who didn't get an RA after the visit). This was my case @ UW-Madison. Different school may have different policy.
