UIUC, UMN, Madison, IAState
First off, the worthless stats everyone always searches for: (whoops, I probably shouldn't say that on a testing site
)- GRE: 660 Verbal, 800 Quant., 5.5 Writing - CS AGRE: 840 - GPA: 3.97/4.00 I have applied to the CS PhD programs at the following schools: - UIUC - Minnesota-Twin Cities - UW-Madison - Iowa State - Caltech - Berkeley - MIT And the following fellowships: - NSF - NDSEG - NPSC - Hertz (interviewed by physicist and rejected) I have acceptances with funding from UIUC and Minnesota, no word from any of the others. I've already read elsewhere in the forums that I'm probably on the waiting list for Berkeley, and probably should hold no hope for MIT or Caltech. Has anyone else heard from Iowa State or Madison? I'm extremely pleased to be accepted by UIUC, but I'm planning to wait for at least most notifications from the other schools, so I'm just curious what others have heard. I suppose this is the wrong thread, but any word from those fellowships as well? Thanks! |

First off, congrats on the UIUC and other admits!! That is great. Also, I have applied for the NDSEG fellowship...No word yet. However, I do know they had 3600 apps for 130 positions. Good Luck.

Very strong profile! Wow! Congratulations for your admits.
(I have no idea about the other universities since I'm econ major.)

Thanks for the info bigredx24x, I hope we both get funded! :-)
And thank you for the encouragement, gstergia, I feel blessed and satisfied, even though my profile's not as strong as gforce's. (just kidding, no envy :-) ) |

hey congrats on getting into UIUC...
BTW, how did they communicate their decision? Did you receive an email or did they send you a letter or something? I applied there as well and am very nervous!! |

Congratulations! UIUC is a great school for CS. I guess you still want to wait for Berkeley, MIT, Wisconsin, and CalTech to make their decisions. You could probably just go ahead and tell Iowa State you're no longer interested in continuing the application process there. Hope you get more admits, good luck!

Re: UIUC, UMN, Madison, IAState
kamer: You're not going to like this: they notified me the fifth of this month. However, I'm sure a lot of people will be rejecting as the even higher schools' waiting lists start to trickle down. Don't give up yet, I'm not giving up on Berkeley either! (although I'll have to consider your warnings about them if I do get accepted, they've been echoed by others I know as well) Best wishes, I hope you post a UIUC success soon! (although like I said, your other offer from Duke looks pretty nice, at least financially!)
ChoBaka: thanks for the suggestions, your advice about Iowa seems sound, they just don't have a big name even though they seem like a really good school. What a bewildering guessing process waiting for these admits! For example, I'm confused by not having received a rejection from Caltech since they didn't offer to interview me, it seems like they interview the people they're interested in. Who knows, I think I'll forget about this again for awhile... :-) |
