JC_Maxwell 's dreams are becoming reality.
In @ UMich (Ph.D. in Applied & Interdisciplinary Math)

This is my first posting.
Spending REALLY stressful days after being rejected by Princeton, I finally got an acceptance e-mail from the Department of Mathematics of the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (Ph.D. program in Applied & Interdisciplinary Mathematics)!

Like many of you guys who has been in the same boat as me, I even thought I'm not gonna get into any of the universitites to which I applied. But, I finally did it. I hope that you guys will also get a great admit that is worth waiting for!

Re: In @ UMich (Ph.D. in Applied & Interdisciplinary Math)

Thanks a lot guys!

To encourage those who are worried about bad GRE general scores, I would like to show my lousy GRE general test scores:
V: 320 (10%), Q: 800 (92%), A: 670 (72%) (old Analytical Reasoning):o
I don't usually tell people my GRE general scores cuz I'm really ashamed of it (especially verbal!). However, I would like to encourage those who are worried about being rejected because of low GRE general scores.

Congratulations JC_Maxwell!!!I am also waiting for news from UofM (Applied and Indisciplinary Math), but
it looks like the time has come and passed.
I think my main problem is the subject score (60% :o )
Anyways, congrats!

Re: In @ UMich (Ph.D. in Applied & Interdisciplinary Math)

Thanks gugo.

I actually have talked with the chair of the program, and I asked him how important GREs are for admission. He actually told me that the letters of recommendation and GPA are more important than GREs, and GREs are useful if you are from a small college which they don't really know.

Anyway, thanks and good luck!

You have NO idea just how precious that post is going to be!! Thanks a million for sharing your scores. I really appreciate your honesty. I am sure this thread is going to cheer up and relieve the anxiety of so many prospective students applying to a program with a mathematics major.

Thank you once again!
Cheers!

No prob, Dingus.

I didn't expect that my post was gonna be that precious.
My GRE general is THAT bad, huh?:o (jk)
Anyway, I'm glad to hear that. Now I know that I didn't just end up with embarrassing myself.

Congratulations Maxwell! Your story is very inspiring. I got rejected by princeton ORFE yesterday, and started to worry that I would get in nowhere. I have a terrible GRE General too. I should have applied to UMich
