Anyone hear from Wisconsin for CS PhD?

I'm still waiting to hear from Wisconsin-Madison for the PhD program in their CS department. Has anyone heard anything from them? Any rumors on when/how notices might come out? I know their Web site says March 15 as a acceptance/rejection deadline, but do they really take til the last minute?

I noticed one EECS listing for Wisconsin on whogotin.com, but I'm wondering if that's really from the Electrical and Computer Engineering dept, and not from the Computer Sciences dept.

Clearly, I'm paranoid and anxious just like everyone else on here so any info would be great.

Thanks

Re: Anyone hear from Wisconsin for CS PhD?

So I have not been contacted formally yet, but Wisconsin's status page suddenly changed between yesterday and today, now stating:

"Your department has recommended you for admission. The Graduate School will be reviewing your file. Please refer to this page for updates."

This is for the Computer Science PhD. Has anyone else noticed a change in their status? This means I was accepted, right? The Graduate School part is just a formality, yeah?

Now to decide how Wisc and UM-Ann Arbor compare, particularly in regard to AI. I have a sense that UM does more AI, but I like the location and other stuff about Wisc more--I think. I'll probably get a better sense after visiting both.

Anyway, just wanted to share this. Hopefully some other people have been waiting on Wisc and have also gotten some good news.

Re: Anyone hear from Wisconsin for CS PhD?

Hey abgoldberg,

that's superb news! congrats

i have applied there for CS MS. But they say all grad applications are considered in one single pool. So maybe there is some decision for me as well...

By the way, can you give the URL you use for checking your status at Wisc. I used https://www-auth.cs.wisc.edu/grad-app/auth/index.html but all it does it to put a green check mark for all application materials required, therefore meaning they have received all my docs . Where did you check your status at?

Hey, I got an email a while back with a link to check my status. The link begins: https://www.gradsch.wisc.edu/applicants/status.html?a=" followed by some random letters and numbers. This came from the Grad School, so I'd imagine you got a similar e-mail. Mine is dated 12/1/04, which I think corresponds to when I submitted the simple Grad School application (not the full CS dept. application). The e-mail also has a special Campus ID number that you need to enter after following the link.

Good luck!

Re: Anyone hear from Wisconsin for CS PhD?

thanks dude,

i had completely forgotten that email and never checked my status there! :o
thank god, all my scores and fees reached them. My status field shows: "Your application has been received and is under review. Please refer to this page for updates." And guess what, its supposedly updated on 26 feb 2005!

i just hope that's not an euphemism for saying "F.O."

Re: Anyone hear from Wisconsin for CS PhD?

hi

My M.S application at Wisc shows " Your application has been received and is under review. Please refer to this page for updates." for more than 3 months now.

The date displayed in the status page is the current date. It is not the date of last updation.

Thanks for the tip abgoldberg, never would have thought to check! I've been recommended as well, perhaps we'll run into each other.
