Thank you very much for your warm support in this moment of weakness! Surely, this gf problem was not the worst thing that could happen in life, and I guess this happens to most people one day or another. Now it's my turn...

I remember that several years ago I applied to a PhD position in some institution in Switzerland. The application was not successful (I guess because the position was in a very different research area). I was very frustrated. But now with an admission from MIT I am very happy that I was rejected that time! Thank God I was rejected!!! I am sure that one day I will say the same about my former gf.

The brand new life is right ahead ...

Maybe girls/women do not like men who are too good because they instinctively prefer strong men. This is like we guys instinctively prefer prettier girls/women, even though we intellectually know that prettier is not better. When a man is good, generous, and forgiving, it might appear to a woman (subconciously?) that this man not strong enough. A stong man can do evil things to achieve an end, he can shout, he can beat... But the reality is that it takes more strength to be good than to be bad. I guess it was necessary to demonstrate my strength from time to time. It is difficult to win a lady with kindness only.

Watson.......ur goin to grad school can b a big reason for ur breakup, long distance relationships r VERY HARD to maintain.(i m assuming u r intrnational student)
me n my guy have changed our status from a relationship to friendship bcoz i'll b going to grad school(hopefully) while he wants to stay in India(he's working:s/w eng) n who knows wat our priorities will b after 2-3 yrs.............thus considering all things n being practical we've taken this decision.but MAN!! its tough....already gettin tough...

huh! anyways in ur case i'll say it's totally the girls loss.

Yikes!!! I dated a girl like that in High School. Said almost the same thing to me. She later went into a mental hospital on several occassions. You are so much better without her.

You are in a peculiarly liberating situation. Not only has a dream school accepted you, you are standing at its threshold with no strings at all. I say, enjoy it. Enjoy it really well!

hey hey, shame on all you academics, the sample size is way too small to draw anything conclusive! Though I do agree with an earlier comment that most "girls" like bad boys until they become women. But I also think maybe she didn't mean that she wanted you to "shout" at her, maybe she meant that she wanted you to be more assertive. She does sound like she's not emotionally mature though (since she can't communicate her needs to you but accuse you instead), so maybe it's better that you find someone who is, especially since you'll be very busy in the next few years.

Congrats again and thanks for sharing how grateful you were about an earlier rejection, many things seem to work out without everything going our way.

My comment was intended to make the fellow (Doc) feel good that he really did not loose much by that rejection (which is indeed true).

Plus, I said that for me, a mature and sensible girl qualifies to be a woman.
