Seems to be a right decision. But you said you are in love with him, so I'm sure it was a painful decision. Yes, it's tough ... Looks like we are already facing the worst side of the grad school experience. As for changing relationship to friendship, I doubt it will work in my case. We also changed to friendship a week or two ago, but now I think that it will be better not to see her any more at all. This friendship is a torture . My first post was right after our "friendly" meeting. I was so frustrated ... No, I need to leave her and forget her. Otherwise I might indeed start drinking and being violent ...

You are right. I made mistakes. I should have spent more holidays and vacations with her instead of cramming all this crazy GRE vocabulary (damn ETS; ironically, MIT EE does not use GRE scores anyway). I made other mistakes. The break-up was not really a surprize. I thought I could live with it, but it turned out to be more difficult than I imagined. I think the real reason of the break-up is that she simply lost interest in me. It is said that love cannot last forever... I don't think discussing something with her will help here. She is just indifferent. Yesterday I mentioned to her provokingly that one guy invited me to go find "fast girls" and have fun (sorry, I don't know correct English words for this ... hope you understand). Her answer: "Why don't you go?" Oh my God. She was not kidding. How could she say such a thing? This is terrible . And what if she will go and find fast boys? I will go mad and kill everyone... Well, I guess I need to stop and forget all this nonsense.

So should you. Suffice to say, apart from the TM community, some of the world's greatest minds -both past and present, would also agree. Think about women/men, but not so much that your life becomes a misery. And also, there is no earthly need to change yourself and become a jerk. Men/Women are not stupid - they know what they want. Some don't till it is too late. That's their problem, not yours. NOTE how the above lines hold for the entire species - not just a single sex.

Dr. Watson, MIT is among the best places you can go to meet intellectual people, since you're going to MIT you must be pretty intellectual yourself and would want to meet such people. You can date girls from Radcliffe and Wellsley, among the best of the "Seven Sisters" women's colleges. That is apart from the girls at MIT and Harvard.
