What is strange is that the dog did not bark, Dr. WATSON. We have work to
do my friend . I'll tell you how I arrive at my conclusions, rule out the impossibles.

Peter and Dr.Watson you both seem to have great admiration for Russia,
what to do I make of it. LoL

Congrats Peter, I am sure you'll tell me what physics courses you have taken,
one fine day when I am good enough to understand them.

and Watson the days when the east stood for Russia, have long gone.

I guess we are entering the era of the Dragon and the Tiger, any thoughts..

Brilliant, Dhruv! You are right, I am working full-time and I cannot devote all my time to the forum (unfortunately).

Actually I'm not from Russia and I don't have much admiration neither for Russia nor for Soviet Union. There are many things I dislike in Russia (their politics, for example). But I must also admit that there are/were some great things in Russia which I admire, including Russian/Soviet science and culture. However, I do not want to discuss politics here... This forum is devoted strictly to admissions and girls, so I guess we should try to stick to it

Re: Maryland College Park

CONGRATS!!!

I'm from MIPT BTW. I would say that MIPT (but not Russian in general) education is indeed more fundamental/theoretic than the US one. However, the real reason why MIPT students are so respected and easily make it into the top-3 universities of US (in Physics) is not in the quality of MIPT education but rather in the selection of the entering students. I mean, MIPT has such a strong reputation that each year only the best students from ex-USSR apply, and only the best of the best get admitted (I'm really shy, am I not? ;-).

For example, almost everyone of the Russian, Ukrainian, Georgian etc. national teams for International Physics Olympiad chooses MIPT as their undergraduate university.

Applicant for Eastern Europe, a very good university .

GRE: Q: 800, V: 450:o
GRE Subject: 900 (90 percentile)
TOEFL: 270

GPA: 3.8

I have master's with many many advanced courses:
Measure theory, group representations, discrete mathematics, topology, differential geometry, complex analysis.

I don't mention the physics courses becouse nobody would understand.

1.5 year of theoretical research. I am currently in the USA so I got recommendations from a well known US faculty member (I think this can help a lot).

Maryland rocks!
The former head or my former department got his PhD from Maryland College Park.

Re: Maryland College Park

Guys thank you for all the compliments :o ! This admit came Monday and to be honest until that moment I was a bit disappointed . The letter from them took all my sorrow away .

I was invited to the open house 1 April. They had more than 620 applicants and expect 25 matriculants (I don't know how many admits they actually send out), I feel really lucky.
