Got admit from UC Irvine
Hi,
I am based in Bangalore working in a telecommunications company for the past 1.5 years. My GRE score is 2110 and TOEFL is 280. Undergraduate score from VTU, Karanataka is 76%.My research interests are wireless networks and distributed systems. I have applied to the following universities: 1)UC Irvine ( MS Networked Systems) 2)Univ of Utah (Phd) 3)Michigan State Univ (Phd) 4)Vanderbilt Univ (Phd) 5)SUNY Buffalo (MS) 6)WSU (MS) Currently I have got an admit from UC Irvine for their MS program but without ANY aid.(that is $37712 per year). Though UC Irvine is great for my research interests and the best among the lot, since the cost is way out of reach I am waiting for the other results. Please do comment on my results and prospects. regards, Muzammil |

Quote:
I applied in the first week of January 2005. Got the result on March 1 via email stating that I have been recommended for admission without AID and that I have to furnish financial documents for an amount of $37712 to be given actual admission.(I do not know whether they are implying that I will not get any aid at all eveen afetr landing there or that it is just no initial AID) My status page shows the contents of the email. ##################################### Dear Syed Muzammil Hussain, Please read this notice carefully from start to finish. A response from you is required in order that we may continue processing your application. The members of the Networked Systems admissions committee would like to recommend that you be admitted for graduate degree study at the University of California, Irvine beginning in the Fall 2005 academic term. This is a recommendation only, for admission without financial support. This is not a formal admission offer. Limited resources are available for financial support, including research or teaching assistantships and fellowships. Unfortunately, all such funds are already committed and we cannot provide you any financial support. Before we can confirm the review committee recommendation, we must know that you are willing to accept admission without financial support. Accepting this recommendation will mean that you have sufficient funds available for your first year of study, and that you will have continuous access to these funds while enrolled at UC Irvine. Our recommendation must then be approved at School-level on campus. The cost of living is high in Southern California. You will incur the following minimum expenses at UC Irvine during the academic year 2005-2006. You will face similar expenses during each subsequent year: * Non-Resident Tuition/Fees (3 quarters): $24,712 * Room/Board, Books, Supplies, Transportation: $13,000 In order to obtain visa documents to come to the United States you will be required to show proof of financial support in the amount of $37,712 for the nine-month academic year beginning mid-September 2005. You will need to send us a financial statement from your banking institution, showing that you can indeed support yourself while studying here at UC Irvine. (The financial verification documents you submit for this purpose should be recent, and must be valid for at least 6 months from the day they are received.) Additionally, you must submit the Confidential International Applicant Questionnaire. The Confidential International Applicant Questionnaire and Financial Support Statement forms (CIAQ Form) are available online at www.ic.uci.edu. Please carefully follow the instructions and return your completed paperwork to the Graduate Student Admissions Coordinator. Should you have any questions about the University's financial verification requirements as they relate to visa documents, you are welcome to contact the International Center staff for advice at intl@uci.edu. Once we have received this required documentation, your application will be sent for final review. If approved for admission, you will be officially notified (by e-mail, and by mail to your current mailing address), and the International Center will begin preparing your visa paperwork. Unfortunately, we are not prepared to offer admission deferrals at this time; this recommendation is for the Fall 2005 quarter only. If you are unable to come to campus for any reason you will have to reapply in order to be considered for re-admission. Please respond by e-mail to grad2@ece.uci.edu within two weeks of receiving this notice. If we do not hear from you by then, we will assume that you will be unable to attend in Fall 2005. You may mail your financial verification documents to: Ronnie Gran Networked Systems University of California, Irvine 355 Engineering Tower Irvine, CA 92697-2625 Or, you may fax your documents to (949) 824-1853. Thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this matter. Sincerely, Ronnie Gran (grad2@ece.uci.edu) Graduate Student Admissions Coordinator Networked Systems University of California, Irvine ###################################### No, WSU is Washington State University |
