I think Purdue surely scores over Columbia in Computer Architecure/ Compilers and Parallel Systems research. But even this is in the ECE Department. I heard Columbia is very strong in Networks. Purdue CS is very strong and has a major foucs in Software Engineering and related fields if I'm not mistaken.
