In at Georgia Tech Industrial Engineering

    Hello,
The official decision was sent by a professor today.
Asistantship $15000 per year (for 5 years)
Fellowship $4000 per year (for first 2 years)
    Total 19K per year

The offer seems to be nice. However I didn't read very nice comments about Atlanta.
    What do you think?
I am also admitted to Texas A&M. Gatech is ranked #1 and TAMU #9 by usnews in Ind. Eng.

I'd prefer Atlanta over College Station, but if I had my choice I'd want to study in California or New York. That's a very generous offer from Georgia Tech, and since Atlanta isn't as expensive as other large cities that money will go a long way. Plus, isn't Georgia Tech the best school to study IE at? Congratulations!

I guess that the expert for this would be dragonfinity.

my best friend told that Atlanta is not that great city; in fact, he suggested I would not like it, so I should consider other schools, if it is not my top choice...
but in your case, it seems to be the best school

If both schools were similarly ranked, I'd pick California without a doubt.

GaTech is a great school for IE! It was a tough applicant pool this year, so CONGRATULATIONS MAN!! And the offer they gave you is very generous.. since living expenses aren't so bad in Atlanta, I'm sure you will live very comfortably--while in school and afterwards. What other offers have you recieved?

I didnt get any financial aid offer from other schools. I was rejected by Stanford, Berkeley, Kellogg and Anderson(UCLA)

Carnegie Mellon Tepper Business School: decision not made yet
TAMU: Admitted but no info on aid

In what sense exactly did your friend say that u wont like Atlanta....can u be specific?
No doubt NY and Cal are big wild cities but for a foriegn student to survive in those places can be expensive as compared to Atlanta. The economy of Atl is booming so one can find better oppurtunities out there as compared to the "big" cities where already there is a lot of compitition for internships, jobs etc.
Then accomodation in Atl is cheaper.
Also, not as great as big cities, but there are quite a few good clubs and restaurants where desis hang out every weekend!! So u wont have much of a problem with socializing & making friends!!!!
what else.....public transportation is available in and around Atlanta downtown where GA Tech is......and plus GA tech is one of the best schools....and because they re being too generous with u, think twice before letting this offer go.......again try to be a bit more specific.....lets see how we can help u.
