Admitted to RICE, UNIV. OF PENNSYLVANIA, UT-Austin help me decide!

Hey what's up man? I accepted Rice's offer over UT. But again I am doing Comms, and I am yet to hear any info about support at UT. Were you impressed by Rice facilities? I know they took you all on a tour separately. Good luck and maybe I'll see you at Rice. You got 8 days left to make up your mind.

UT austin..Supposed to be the up and coming univ..towards the top...heard a lot abt the industry support it enjoys...Physics program in Solid state and nanotech is very good..good rep...I just think overall UTA is just a much better allrounder

I'm at Upenn.. dont even bother with this place.. Ivy league and all that crap is good on paper .. we've got nothing to show for it .. and its a crappy dept. as well.
I've seen Rice and I was very impressed ..also heard very good things about Rice.. take it !!

I wouldn't really recommend UPenn, especially since you have Rice and UT-Austin. Both are equally good but I think UT-Austin has the edge. It also depends on the quality of the profs. in your area of interest. For example, EEPHDWANNABE is interested in comnets and Rice is probably better than Austin in that realm of EE.

You guys are awesome! Thank you very much for all your assistance. I received the Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) Master's Fellowship. They required that I go to Austin iand join an SRC funded professor if I accept the Award. Though I still LOVE Rice, I think that the Fellowship will open up lots of opportunities.

Thank you guys and goodluck with you graduate decisions. I will need to write Rice a very nice rejection letter cause i think they are awesome.

Hey EEPHDWANNABE Im pretty sure we met at the ECE recruitment day at RICE on February. For Comm SYS...Rice is awesome...but I am not sure what exactly their Engineering Physics degree is all about...Im into Solid State AND Nanotech. I guess Rice is only good in Nanotech, but Austin is good in both...so thats one of the reasons I choose Austin (The bad...the school is too big!).

Sad to see to folks from Upenn not liking it...I was there this past summer for a research Internship...I thought it was pretty cool...but the East Coast lifestyle was too weird for my liking.

We did meet. I was the Russian guy that came in late the first night. You, as I recall, were the black guy sitting to my left. Good luck at UT. After MS from UT there is no limit to how far you can go for PhD. MIT, UCB, Stanford...they'll be all yours.

Yeah EEPHDWANABE, you are correct! I liked Rice as well, but I'm not so sure about their Engineering Physics Program. The campus is beautiful though.

Care to explain a little bit more about the situation at Penn? I have friends doing Chem and Mech Eng. PhDs over there, and both of them want to quit...seems like a trend. Any info would be very helpful to those of us considering applying to Penn in the Engineering/Science fields.
