Re: Dingus, give your updates here!!

Hi Dingus,
First of all - "CONGRATULATIONS!!!!"

I have a small problem here. I have applied for MS in EE for Fall 2005. Suppose the profs I've mentioned in my SOP don't have openings for the Fall semester, does it mean that my chances of an admit are bleak??

Thumbs up Congrats to Dingus!

CONGRATS!!
New smiley, just for you. => Dingus, it's time to change your name, although I have to say that "acceptus" doesn't roll off the tongue the same way "Dingus" does.

Looks like I'm a little late jumping in to congratulate you here in this thread. I can only say that if you are close to your Dingus persona in real life that you will undoubtedly be one of those truly rare people--a person who is capable of touching and changing other people's lives.

I cannot even begin to thank you enough for the enormous contributions you've made to our community here. Your boundless optimism, compassion, insight, intelligence, and finally, something I'm sure we've all noticed, your Solomonic leadership are beyond compare and truly set you apart. I'm sure that you realize that this period in one's life, this period of transition, uncertainty, and well, a kind of "ultimate judgment," in which one exposes herself as best she can for admission or rejection, is a very stressful part of one's life. What people need at this time is not just advice, but solidarity; you have provided both.

But I digress with my panegyric to you, when I should be congratulating you. Your admits are awesome, and your dings; well, I'm sure you're aware that a few years in the future, you will most likely be happy about the choices you've made. No matter where you go, I'm confident that you'll take advantage of the opportunities you have. And once you're on the "inside," you'll probably see just how important luck is in the admissions process, especially for smaller programs (which I assume yours is).

I wish you all the best in the coming months as you make your preparations to study at whatever school you choose. Congrats again; I hope you are treating yourself to something special in the "real" world as a reward for your efforts.

I am very mad at people that characterize as stupid/smart other persons/themselves based solely on a stupid and meaningless GRE score. Smartness/Stupidness cannot be judged until you get to know each person in depth, and certainly it cannot be measured by test scores. Other factors, such as organization, perseverence, modesty, responsiveness, honesty, effort, kindness, sincereness, and overall spirit are by far more important in evaluating one's intelligence!

@bioinformatics:
Well, I think I will keep hanging around till some program gobbles me up completely.

@gforce:
Thanks for the extra force! Hehe.

@dirak
Maintain a positive outlook. Always. As someone once said, you are not out of the game *till* you are out of the game or well... something like that. You never know when and how a place might suddenly spring up for you. Sometimes the best things in life happen unexpected. I never expected an admit from one of the universites in my list and was pleasantly surprised when I got in. Back in January, a professor from the program actually wrote back telling me that I might want to look at other programs as they were taking in very few students this time. I gave up even expecting anything and one fine day the admit dropped into my inbox! So keep praying for the best. Good Luck!

@on_dope
Where in the world did you vanish?? ...and what are you upto? How's everything? Thanks for dropping in and All the very best!

@Mike
Thanks for the very flattering remark, though I am afraid I am definitely not "the real man behind the scenes" in any sense. I do occasionally pull at the curtain strings but it doesn't count for much. :o Thanks again for the encouragement. Keep me posted on what's going on at your end.

Thanks a lot for the nice new smiley wizard! I really wish I looked a little bit like that in real life.

I wish. In real life, most people don't listen to me. But at Testmagic, there is something very special. Maybe its got a lot to do with you.

:o Actually, I read a tonload of journal articles of my future advisors, obsessed over living costs, drew up endless budget plans and generally worried over a million things. ...and yes, was fooled thrice with rather nasty April fool jokes!!! Rather pathetic, huh?

BUT coming to TM and reading your message a million times over is a big treat.

Thank you a trillion times over, Erin!!!
