all those are indeed very valuable suggestions,but my problem is that my program doesn't offer formal financial aid to "any" student admitted .The other programs offered in same department do have TA/RA etc.The situation is, since none of the admitted MGIS students will have aid & its known openly MGIS doesnt offer any financial aid, how shud i word my request to catch the attention of the prof's?

Also i m from Environment Management background,i cant possibly match my interests completely with a prof in Geography dept.So i cant write that i have deep interest in ur work n i m dying to work with u, it wud sound fake!

any comments?

I think you can go for few Dotnet ( computer language courses ) courses in 2-3 months prepare one live project. reason being even if one doesnt get a scholarship or any aid, Believe me DOTNET is hot in US these days & dotnet individuals can get paid like 15 - 20 $/hour so one can easily fund his studies, this can be a safe option to go for !

it isnt big deal whether department interests matches yours. Show them that it does n you really are very eager to join their RA/TA's ( you've to be little bit fake in tat & I knw indians are smart enough to do tat :P ). one can alaways apply in another departments for TA/RA's. I think its better to fire them a polite emails, that wont harm anybody :-P

thanx for the suggestion but it maynot b the best option for me as i dont have any background in CS, learning 2-3 comp languages in few months n then teaching them is gonna b kinda difficult but, i m considering ur suggestion.
