chrismd05,
your profile is indeed very inspiring.
I do agree with what all the others say regarding contacting the school as to what went wrong...
Best of LUCK.

Re: Well...The Worst Possible Happened...

Well guys, today was the last day to get a phone call from USC if I was accepted via my appeal. Nothing...

I felt a tear come down my cheek when my clock struck 5:00PM. I dont know what to do now. I just need to be mentally/spiritually healed. I feel broken. How can this have happened...

Re: Well...The Worst Possible Happened...

Are you talking about undergrad admission (since you gave SAT scores)?
In that case I think it is easy to transfer after 2 years at a community college.

Re: Well...The Worst Possible Happened...

Hey, chrismd05,
Which other schools you got into??? I know nothing can replace USC as you wanted to go in there very badly. It happens sometimes, especially for undergrad studies.
As far as i know your SAT score is very good and your extra work is also commendable but how many AP classes did you take?? I think they matter a lot. Also about your former high school. How reputed is it?? A very good school offering many AP's does not help, as the competition level is very much.
Anyways i don't know whether you can transfer to USC from a community college but its rather very easy to go to a UC from a community college. Even state university students can't transfer to a UC...
But still i think you should go and meet USC guys personallly. and present your case.
Best of luck

I am very mad at people that characterize as stupid/smart other persons/themselves based solely on a stupid and meaningless GRE score. Smartness/Stupidness cannot be judged until you get to know each person in depth, and certainly it cannot be measured by test scores. Other factors, such as organization, perseverence, modesty, responsiveness, honesty, effort, kindness, sincereness, and overall spirit are by far more important in evaluating one's intelligence!

Re: Well...The Worst Possible Happened...

I'm just wondering what could have gone wrong. Could it be that there was something in your personal statement that turned them off? How did you approach the essays? Did you get help? Ask friends? Adults?

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear about this reject. But you need to have faith that things will go well no matter where you end up.

Re: Well...The Worst Possible Happened...

I don't understand why either. I can only assume some on the admissions panel was put off by something... but can't really imagine what would be bad enough to make them ignore all that other stuff. Anyway, judging by the tone of your posts, you're definitely going to go to college at some point. Some suggestions:

Do it right next time. Apply to a minimum of 6 schools.

Apply to USC again and write to them right now asking them to save your application for one more year.

Taking some SAT II tests might help.

Look over all your application material. Examine everything - Is your GPA below your class average? Does your essay make you seem unfocused? Boastful? One dimensional? There are plenty of people here (including me) who would be glad to give it a once over.

Do something productive between now and next fall i.e. enroll in community college or take up a job doing something thats consistent with your goals.

Don't pity yourself. It doesn't accomplish anything.

Good luck

RBGuy

Re: Well...The Worst Possible Happened...

yeah, Erin and redbull are correct...
But according to me try to improve your GPA as well. Try to make it near 4.0 or above it if possible.
Hope you get in your dream university...
take care.

I concur! Don't pity yourself. But! However! I believe everyone is allowed to wallow in self-pity for a short period of time. Remember, though, make it SHORT, or you might get yourself into long-term depression. So, do what you have to (wallow in self-pity for a while, cry, whatever you need for catharsis), then pick yourself up and move forward.

And last but not least, good luck next year! (Oh, taking some SAT 2 subject tests might be a good idea. Choose three subjects and start preparing!)
