Anyone know what UMich CS is like?

Most CS professors I've had were, simply put, poor teachers. They had no concept of how to deliver an effective lecture, draw people into discussion, or answer questions without using circular logic (I especially hate the "Oh, this is obvious/trivial" lines. I also hate when they define a term using the term inside the definition!). Of course, things like that don't matter so much as long as you can churn papers out quickly!

Dan_E , I have a question about Umich EE. I was admitted by Umich for EE PhD but no aid was mentioned. I heard a rumor that Umich EE dept. has some financial difficulties and it is very difficult to get financial aid even you are PhD candidate. Is that true?

I don't have any experience with the EE side of things. UMich is a little strange though in that they admit you first and let you know about funding at some later date, at their leisure. From what I've heard, CSE made a commitement not to accept more students than they can fund. But, as I said, I have no experience with EE and I don't know what the funding situation is like for them.

I've heard rumors about UMich EE...they seem to be having financial difficulties, and they've been accepting way more students than they can fund. This is just something I've read on a webboard for people from my native country discussing graduate admissions, so I don't know if it's accurate or whether it applies to students of all nationalities.
