Ok, I'll ask my professor. I'll have class with him this afternoon. He graduated (3 degrees including his Ph.D.) from U. of Michigan-Ann Arbor. I complained with him another day about the slow result of undergraduate admission.
He played joke and answered me, "U. of Michigan is slow in everything except when they charge your tuition. If you pay this morning by your credit card, it will show in your statement the same day." Hi..hi.. He laughed.. About the cost of living. Between Ann Arbor and LA....not so much different but the weather..sure..it is so much different. a bitterly cold and a mild climate. I understand your feeling of making a decision in the dateline. We have to make a decision by May 1st as well. Oh..your writing is very short.. I need to spend some time to try to understand your langauge as chat langauge..I am old though. I am sorry.

for wireless networking, I would suggest UCLA over UMich
Reasons: 1) UCLA = California AND LA 2) UCLA has very good wireless networking research facilities 3) UCLA = Great Weather, Ann Harbor must suck in that But seriously, I am sure for wireless networking UCLA has better research opportunities GOod Luck |

I just asked my professor. Here is his comment in quote:
"I would choose Michigan over UCLA. Michigan has nationally academic standard a lot higher than UCLA. If I have to choose between Washington University-St.Louis and Michigan, I will flip the coin." I don't know anything about the area specifically but that is the general comment from an American professor. Good luck.

I don't agree with the "lot higher" statement about the academic quality of Ann Arbor over UCLA. But I would go with Ann Arbor since it has a better reputation in the area and is likely to have lower cost of living.
I recommend looking at the reasearch being done at both schools - if you feel that one school clearly does more research on wireless networks than you have a winner. Otherwise the edge goes to Michigan. |

I dont understand even the reason for as doubt, UCLa is the obvious choice, Personally i think Umich aint great in Communication / networking.., UCLA, UCSD and UCSB are much better, I do not know which professor vouches for Umich, but my guess is it was in a different field in EECS (maybe VLSI, CS theory or AI in which Umich is good apparently), dont go by rankings,
UCLA surely has a brand name no less than Umich..+ better location + better weather + cheaper, this is a choice between a cheaper and better place compaed to an expensive and not so great place, so need u more advice? P.S : I have nothing against any school, these r my views got thru the course of my own research..(conferences, journals etc) |
