Thumbs up Contacting Profs. at the Univ.

Hey Guys....I have got an admit into Purdue and will be goin 2 pursue MS in Computer Science there with a specialization in Network Securities. I have tried contacting some of the professors at the department who are carrying research in the same area of interest as mine. I have emailed them twice but no replies from them.

Can u suggest me possible ways of contacting the professors about courses and details of their current projects and research... so that they are interested in replying back!!!

Plzz help guys!

I can tell you this: First I emailed a prof, but he didn't reply, so I thought that probably he wasn't interested in my e-mail. But then I called him and talked to him on the phone and he told me that he usually doesn't reply on e-mails because he is busy. So a good idea would be to call. Still the research projects and course details are usually posted on-line at each prof's website.

A professor at a top university receives plenty of mail, and as a result, don't reply to emails unless they feel that the email expresses genuine interest in their work. I have contacted some profs. and whenever, I wrote the emails based on the profs. research, I have received a reply.
Do read throught he prof's webpage and read some of his papers just to get a gist of what work he's doing. Then frame an email and make it a point to include your own interpretation of the results in his papers and waht you feel about the research and why you are interested in doing research int hast field. If an email has this sort of content, the prof. has to reply to it.
Another fact is that profs. (like all human beings) are very much interested in discussing their work if they feel that the student has genuine interest.

agcr1 's dreams are becoming reality.
It really pisses me off when a person, proffesor or not, doesn't reply to an email. It only takes one f***ing minute!!. Busy, yeah right.
