I'd say most rankings put UBC econ ahead of UofT.
For those wondering, I'm leaning towards going back to UBC. The program and money being offered is similar to Queen's but UBC needs less living expenses for me, and the school is reputationally better. I was discussing with my profs and while they don't doubt that I can handle the harder PhD module of UofT, they don't recommend that I get tied into a less flexible program unless I'm 100% positive a PhD is right for me (which I'm not). I'll need to think about it for a couple more days but in any case I should be freeing up a slot in two universities by next Tuesday. ![]() |

i got an email from the grad secretary at Queen's today that i am in (for MA). i think they are doing another round of admits; my status never changed - still says "1 item required" so e-mail is probably the most reliable..
i got a very small funding compared to what schools like mcmaster gave me but i wasn't even sure if i could get in so i'm happy. check your emails not your online status! good luck. |

Well I've accepted UBC's offer.
UofT's offer, as it turns out, was very generous, but balanced by higher tuition and housing costs, so final in-pocket money was the same. But I've come to the conclusion that if I don't do a PhD then UBC would give me more liberty to do applied coursework, and UBC's reputation slightly edges UofT for PhD preparation. I had been preparing myself to be out of town for a year, though, so I guess it was kind of anticlimatic in that sense. ![]() Once UBC confirms my acceptance I'll release the UofT and Queen's offers ASAP. Best of luck! |

tired of waiting...
guys,I am getting really nervous about these Canadian universities.I still have no news from UBC and Queens. Is my situation so bad?It seems that US universities like me more,ha ha just a joke!I guess if I don't hear from UBC by the end of the week,I should give up any chances for financial aid(and maybe for acceptence). ![]() |

i still have yet to hear from 3 canadian universities (Toronto, UBC, McGill). i spoke with Toronto grad secretary who said wait till end of this week (and that's not even for certain, but she said "hopefully"). i don' think you should start worrying yet.. they are still in the process of reviewing, but just being slow at it..

Thanks for cheering up,Werther
anyway,I am quite worried.some guys said that UBC started sending admissions end of February.and I applied...centuries ago,I sent my application on 20th of January,if I remember right.I am quite desperate, because in the USA,I got two admissions and no money at all(and I have no co-signer for a loan) and Canada is my last chance for graduate school(given that any university offers financial aid,of course).so the despair is slowly permeating my body and soul....(Maybe I should start an English major,ha ha).anyway,I am starting to look for a job already![]() |
