Exactly. UIUC is the one and only EXCEPTION for the location. In fact, I've applied to 12 grad schools, and UIUC is the only one thats not on the coast. Most of my schools are on the west coast too, for the same reason that we're discussing here.
But I've actually been to the job fairs of the UIUC CS/Eng. and I can assure you that a whole bunch of companies show up. Maybe UCLA is equally good, but I fail to see how any college would be absolutely better. And the reputation is much better than UCLA. In fact, I'd go to UIUC if I didn't have Stanford. For PhD, I guess it is a slight overstatement to say "Yale is Yale" but its kind of true, and you know what I mean. There is a prestige there that you simply won't get at the other two. |
