Financial Engineering vs Information Systems
Hi,
this is a little urgent. I had a MISM acceptance from Carnegie Mellon earlier this year. I also received a quick admission to Columbia Financial Engineering program. I am tied to decide between two programs. As far as I know MISM is highly reputed in the industry; though my friends in this forum suggested me that the ROI is not enough. Financial Engineering is also a promising field and Columbia is an Ivy college but what are your opinions when those programs are compared? ps: I know that there are fundemental differences between the two programs but my background allows me to choose both of them , in that I studied Computer Science and Bus. Adm. Please pay attention to the Ret. of Inv while comparing the two programs. |

I'm surprised you haven't gotten any responses yet. I guess it really depends on your long-term employment goals. You may want to also post in the economics forum. Certainly, I would think there are more H1B sponsorships for traditional IT jobs than financial engineering, which would probably favor the INI program at CMU in that circumstance.

Hey man thanks again for the reply, I also made a little research and a masters degree in IT management is almost a necessity especially for an foreigner in order to get a consulting or audit job in IT sector, it is also beneficial (wrt the salary, bonuses etc...) for a US citizen; thus Ill go with the MISM program even if it is too expensive. the fin.eng. program is just too uncertain hence work exp. is much more important in that field.

i dont know about the mism program but columbia's mfe program is not considered that much good as well as its' employment rate. i have read that there are problems about curriculum etc. it is not a that much good option if you intend to get in a master of financial engineering program.
