Hi,

I am struggling to decide what to do. I have received an offer for a 2year MSc prgramme at LSE, which also offers a term abroad and graduation with two titles through the CEMS (Masters in International Management) and a one year MPhil degree from Cambridge also in management.

I intend to do an MBA in a couple of years in the US and I am not sure, which degree/Uni will look better on my CV.

Is there a difference between MPhil and MSc?

Also, the MSc is apparently going to enable me to start at a higher level in my career, whilst after the MPhil I will still be on the same level as all other undergraduates.

The difference in costs and life style did not help me to make a decision...so I would be grateful for any advise or opinions on the reputation of those courses and which uni will be better for postgraduate studies in Management. (P.S. I had lots of internships but my undergraduate degree had nothing to do with economics, business or management so the fact that the MSc is a two year degree, does not necessarily mean it would be a waste of time... it seems more practical than academic anyway).

I don't know much about either program, but I can tell you a couple of things from people I've talked to at both schools.

- I have a friend that did the MPhil in management and said it was an easy course, and said the job prospects out of it were quite good.

- I have been told by people at LSE that the school is more theoretical about things like management (interpret that how you want), and they are not superb about on hands-on aspects of management (but I guess that's why you want to do an MBA). I don't know if that's really right or if my paraphrasing is totally correct, but that's roughly it.

Do the program with courses that interest you more.

Hi both of you,

I have offer from LSE for the 2 year MSc management programme and from cambridge on their mphil management. i have decided to go with cambridge because it is a one year course so i will finish soon and the cost of study wudnt be too much (im an international student). i have had a look at placements that student from cambridge hav got and it looks good. I called them up recently to find out more about placement, they said they were in the process of collecting the info so id have to wait.

'Jagsa' when did ure friend study mphil management at cambridge and what job did he/she get and with which company after the course.

'Questions' have u decided on which university you want to go to?

Why do you want to do an MSc if you eventually want to study for an MBA? Working experience in a respectable company is more important

I agree with the last post: why do you want to do an MBA after a MPhil in Management? MBA are for people who did an undergrad in anything else than admin, econ and mgt. I did a GDBA which is an MBA without the thesis (you get a grad diploma) and the course are management courses but at the undergrad level and for people with no knowledge of admin, econ, or mgt. If you have a MPhil in Mgt, I think that doing an MBA after will be a waste of time.
