Admit @ UC Berkeley Fall 2004 MS in CS to be followed by PhD

Hi all,

First I would like announce that I got acceptance for MS in CS (with intent to do PhD) at Berkeley - I had opted for specialization in distributed systems, databases, mobile computing. I got the email notification on 10th Feb. It said I should receive the financial aid details shortly by postal mail. I am yet to get it. About the official letter from the university, the email said would come after several weeks(?). It also had an invitation for the visit day on March 14-15. A day later some student coordinator called me by phone as well to tell me that I have been accepted.

My credentials - 6.5 yrs of experience in bay area startups, GRE Q800, V680, AWA 5.0, TOEFL 270, TWE 5.0, AGRE CS 790, undergrad Bachelors in CS & Engg 82% (ranked 3rd) from a good college in India. I also had three strong recos, one from an industry veteran scientist with whom I worked closely in a startup that he had founded.

I have applied also for CMU, MIT, Cornell, U of Wash, UT Austin, U Wisconsin, GA Tech, UCSD and UCLA. I am yet to hear from anywhere else.

My top choice was Berkeley! That is why I am extremely happy to get an admission from there, that too as the first response. Both because it is number one in CS, esp in Systems which is my interest area and also because I enjoy the weather in the bay area where I have lived for more than five years. I hope the financial package would be good. I will keep my options open until I hear from all the schools.

Congrats murboy, wonderful admit though it steals all the fun of waiting for other schools as UCB is your top choice. I dont think you are complaining though
