Hello everyone,
after I got a rejection from Berkeley yesterday I just received a brief admission mail from Stanford saying that I got in and that details with financial support will follow next week. My specialization is Computer Vision and (to a lesser extend) Robotics which makes admission is a bit weired since Stanford doesn't have a CV group. My stats are Q800, V430 (yes,no typo), AWA 5.5, CS GRE 860 TOEFL 283 and a GPA of 1.2 (scale 1.0=best...4.0=pass,5.0=fail) at Karlsruhe, Germany. I have two strong recommendations from known Profs in Robotics and Computer Vision and one from a Postdoc which I know well but who did not do research with me. Besides Stanford, I had applied at Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz but I haven't heard from the latter one and Stanford acceptance makes it kind of obsolete. So, thank you Erin for this great forum and everybody else for keeping it alive. I have not been posting a lot messages but I have certainly read a lot of them which helped me a lot during all the waiting time. Also, the CS GRE Forum is a really good resource for sample problems. Good night, it is now 6am local time and I am still excited but I definitely have to go to bed now :-) |

Congratulations Hendrik!
Stanford is a great place, I'm sure you'll enjoy your time there. Can you please tell me in what manner the acceptance (Stanford) and rejection (Berkeley) arrived? is it email, or snail mail? thanks, Rafi (who hasn't heard of any unversity yet [bomb]) |

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! nice school! I have applied also for Stanford's CS PhD program and have no answer yet... Anyone else has received an email? (good or bad?) GUYS, just note that a "PERFECT" GRE is not the key, good reco letters and good SOP its all!!! (Hendrik, your GRE is very good, but we tend to think that a 800Q-650V is needed for TOP univs) Last, i'm sure that Berkeley will regret of that rejection letter they sent you... Don't forget to post you financial info when it arrives GOOD LUCK! and CONGRAST again |
