I completely agree with this.

Having said that I was wondering.... am I the only one who does not believe in individual donating? I really want to help people who suffer all other the world but in my mind donating should be done in a collective level i.e. country or best UN level. ( and/or World Bank, IMF and other big institutions/organizations).

Having donations built-in in our system instead of making them individually has many advantages; it is essentially likes taxes: the people decide their representatives and people's representative decide who much to take from each income level to give to schools, health insurance, medicine etc (Social Policy)

Of course one would say that you cannot force peole donate but I say this is not true. The state forces people all the time from smoking-free areas to taxes for social (or no) purposes. Michael Schumaher I heard was very generous and offered 10million Euros! >> than $10m !!!! I say that the state should have long got these money from Mr. Schumaher and other people who have spare millions and invest them for social purposes. (caution: by "social" I do not mean "popular")

I agree with Erin on what he says about World Economy and I add: even our most generous donations will become (and maybe already are) a drop in the ocean if the BIG institutions (or should I say countries) do not decide to really help in the long term these countries. Can anyone sane think that we can save for example third world countries by individual donating? It is purely and issue of politics and I strongly believe that our action should be politic and individual.

Where you in any of the affected areas , it must have been terrible becoauce I know how it feels, I was present in person at the beach at Chennai, I just could'nt believe such a thing could happen in this part of the world. I was there
after the second wave, the place was total pandemonium.
