I know it's a pain because I also receive error notices every day about bounced messages.

Hey Erin, I finally understood what was going wrong with my subscription cancellation. I am posting it here for anyone who may have similar problems.
I have the new Google popup blocker and the final step of the subscription cancellation involves a popup- which is not allowed by Google.
So pressing the ctrl button down and doing subscription cancellation worked!
Sorry Erin for bugging you when there was no problem at your end!
