Erin,

I think testmagic has developed alot of brand equity in the past couple of years. It actually means something and has to do with what it does/did for many of us. It gives a perception of the portal where people come together to make their studying experience easier, and where their problems can be solved. Also, many of us old timers have become less frequent users (because we're busy with school now thanks to this site ), but whenever someone tells me they're studying for the GMAT, I tell them to use testmagic. So you have to consider the viral marketing aspect as well.

Finally, in terms of urch being easier to remember, I would disagree. Although its only 4 letters, urch doesn't mean much to most people. Its an abreviation, and even if it were pronouced as one word, people will make mistakes with it.

Test Magic on the other hand, is easy and catchy. The way memory works, we tend to remember by association. So someone studying for a GMAT, for example, will find it easy to relate and associate. They wont forget the name, and it actually means something to them.

I hope this helps. Just my thoughts as a Marketer.

These are actually the precise thoughts I've had over the years, but I've also been considering make a separation between the on-line and off-line parts of what I do. Sometimes I think urch is pretty brandable, but at the same time, I know that the TestMagic name does have a fair amount of currency on the Internet. Funny how sticking with something for eight years will do that.

The feeback you kind folks have given me just makes me feel better and more confident about what I wanted to do anyway.

is URCH some kinda acronym? Like Union of Royal Community Helpers ? I just looked up and its definitely not a word out of the English dictionary so Lo! its not going to be that easy to remember. Moreover, from a web strategy point of view, why would Erin host the forums over a domain other than the parent website's domain? Ethically speaking, its not right, it just confuses people and in the long run the newbies tend to run away from it. So yes, TestMagic.com r0x0rz!

P.S. Erin I gotta tell you this, that caricature DOES look like you! Who made it?
