Applying as a freshman instead of a transfer?
Hi all. Basically, my situation is this: I got myself into the wrong major in my first year of college, did horribly in many classes, and the accumulated hours are affecting my GPA terribly no matter how well I do. I know the major I want, and I know the school I want, and I have a pretty good chance of being accepted there, as long as they don't see my current transcript.
I honestly don't even really have enough credits to apply as a transfer student (just barely under 30), and isn't the point of submitting transcripts to give you an advantage/less time in school? So, is it legal to apply without submitting all of your transcripts? Do they look you up to see if you omitted any records? I figure my enrollment anywhere is public record, so what would happen if I applied and they found it later? That said, are there any actual universities (not colleges) that will consider someone with a 2.0 college GPA? :x Half the credits would be chucked out anyway for being Ds |

Unfortunately, you are required to disclose all transcripts on your application. It's not a matter of legality (you won't get fined or jailed) but if any school finds out, you will immediately get dismissed from the school. US universities take these things very seriously, I would not risk it even though I'm sure there have been people who have gotten away with it. You might start over at a community college, do really well and actually apply as a transfer student in 2 years. At that time, your old grades would matter less.
I always encourage people to make the right choice not because they don't want to get caught but because they want to make the right choice. Good luck!

I may be wrong, but at a lot of schools you cannot apply as a transfer applicant unless you have over 30 hours. But like scheng75 mentioned, you will need to submit the transcripts anyways.
Community College may not be a bad option, or maybe try for a mid-tier 4 year school and then after 2 years there you can transfer to a higher quality school. |
