When To Apply

Hey guys I want to apply to Penn State Abington and Temple University. Should I apply now over the summer or wait until I start school in september or around there. Because I have a teacher writing me a recomendation over the summer and I wanted to wait till school started so that when I write my essay for admision, I can have a teacher check it thouroghly. I already started the application for Penn State Abington, but I duno if its possible to apply now. I duno what to do. My dad wants me to apply now so that I haev a better chance to get in too.

Unless you are applying for some sort of early admission procedure turning in an application now is probably not going to help you at all to get in. In fact, it may work to your disadvantage as applications are not normally seen at this time and the secretaries who process them may be primarily concerned with tasks like getting ready for the new students in the fall...Even if you apply now, unless you are part of some sort of early qdmission, your application will just sit...until the adcoms start to work on that.

Good idea to have a teacher look at your essay. Best to turn in applications about one month or so prior to the deadline, giving you time if there is something missing from the qpplication, and not being at such a strange time that someone looses the application.

Yes, I will wait till after the first semester of my senour year this year coming up. And a teacher will look at my essay as I have already arranged that with him this past month before school let out. I will also get one more recomendation as it might help since my scores are not that great. I know a bunch of teachers that really know how I am and how hard I work in their classes. The SAT's to me just dont make sense, it mught give colleges a view of who u are but to me, it doesnt show much. I just dont want to run out of time and not get a college secured next year since its my last year and all, and then I can focus on my school stuff for the rest of the year. Oh yeh one more question, how long does my college essay have to be? And the topic varies with the colelge, am I right?

Most essays are 250-500 words. The topics vary by college, unless you use Common App.
