The University of Virginia comes to mind. William and Mary and Virginia Tech are also good.
What did you want to major in? Last edited by Erin : 2005 September 24th at 01:14 AM. Reason: Hyperlinks added. |

If you can expand your search to the DC area, you could include George Washington U, Georgetown U, Catholic University, American University, and the University of Maryland. Oh yeah, there's George Mason U, too.

George Mason University is in Fairfax, Virgina - in fact GMU is a Virginia State School.
I would put Virginia Tech and James Madison University at a higher level than GMU - their average stats are a bit higher than that of GMU, and the student's each college attracts is totally different. GWU has several campuses (its biggest campus is in Washington D.C.) scattered throughout Washington and Virginia (Mount Vernon). Since the OP is looking at public universities I think GWU will be out of his price range as it is one of the most expensive colleges in the U.S. Also, look at University of Richmond if you are interested in a liberal arts experience - again I don't believe this is a public institution.

Having trouble with the SAT? Try the ACT Accepted: American U., Northeastern U., Boston U., RPI, McGill (going to attend), and Penn State - University Park |

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is pretty good for liberal arts, too.

Well, the only public university (unless I'm forgetting one) in Northern Virginia is GMU. I say if you can get into UVa, you should go. It's a great university and the campus life there is a thousand times better than that of GMU.

well.. i heard that GMU has really good business programs... so if you wanna major in business... then i think GMU's not a bad choice...
(I live near GMU and i usually go to GMU library to study with my friends~~~ and i love their library-cafeteria dual system~~^^ there's a cafeteria in the first floor and 2,3 floors are libraries~~~ if you get hungry while you were studying, you can go down and have some pizza or salad~~~)
