Middlebury College is a top ten liberal arts college, according to the US News ranking.
Middlebury is best known for their strong language departments: English and Romance, most especially. They also have pretty strong study-abroad program in which you can study at various schools all over the world in the language/subject you are interested in. Middlebury is in a very rural setting (Vermont), so if you are looking for more of a suburban/urban setting, this is not the school for you. I really don't know much about their geology program as they better well known in the humanities than in the science/mathematics departments. Middlebury is one of those "SAT-optional" schools, however, you must still submit some type of portfolio or some form of standardized test (AP, SATII,...)
