Hey!
I'm international student who would like to go to Georgetown, Williams, Duke, U Penn, Wellesley, Princeton or Stanford to take a major in either political science or economics. What do you think of my chances of getting accepted? I will be in the need of financial aid. Current GPA is 3.7 (which will increase to a 3.8 in just a month or so) and I'm one of the top 5% of my class. My school does not offer any AP classes but I am taking some college credit in german right now at the university of Stockholm. I just took the SATs and I think that I will get a math score of 700, verbal 680 and a writing score of 580. I will take the test again in January to (hopefully) improve my scores. And I haven't taken the subject tests yet but I suspect that I will get 700-800 in biology, 700 in history and maybe 700 on the Math II test. TOEFL not taken yet. My extra curricular activites are not that many but I'm very active within politics and have been so the previous 3 years. I now hold a postion in a local political youth party board committee. Once a week I'm also a girls youth group leader for the Red Cross and I've been involved with this since last year. In school I'm quite active in clubs etc. I haven't written my essays yet but I'm usually good at writing so that will probably not be a problem. The recomendations I've recieved so far are excellent. What do you think? Do I have a chance of getting accepted or should I look at other schools? I appreciate any comments or suggestions ![]() |

May be its late but....anyway
Your stats are average for those schools, meaning you have the average chance if you were a US student. Being an international student requiring financial aid makes it more difficult. I had better stats on SAT I (2150), gpa(A equivalent), and SAT II's(800's in Physics and Math L2), with decent ECs and community service. I didn't get into my choice school Oberlin. The amount of financial aid can be a factor. You will have to present yourself as a strong candidate with proper expression of your passions, your activities, your recovery from any adversity, if any, and your enthusiasm in learning. Your essay and activities are crucial. You may get in with those stats if the college admisssion committee believes that you can bring novel perspectives and flavor to their campus. Good Luck! I hope this helps to others as well. |
