Engineering Schools (Public vs Private)

It seems for engineering, public unversities have very good programs, often better than most well-known private universities. Anyone know why that is the case? Are public universities able to secure funding for engineering more easiliy than private schools?

This has been the question of the decade it appears...Public vs Private universitites. Well in my opinion, I feel the choice of universities actually depends on the student. It really doesn't matter if it is a public or a private university. What matters most is that you should see if a particular university suits your purpose or not. Maybe this should provide some valuable information. Hope it helps

All the best !!

This gets to the heart of why didn't a private non-engineering school become rich?

First, it is the researchers at a particular school that makes a program famous. How do you get a school famous? Pay the star researchers shitload of $$$ and ask him to publish like crazy. (BTW,Undergrad programs are more or less the same regardless of which school, engineering school or otherwise since researchers don't teach.)

Second, why do you think public and private U offer the same salaries for those top researchers? That's because engineers are not known to be well heel donors to private school. Those that made it to the top do not thank his/her engineering training but rather his/her management training later on in life. This is the sole reason why business school gets more endowment than engineering school.
