Personal Statement???

Greetings!

Can somebody tell me what does it mean when a university in US ask for a "personal statement" as a part of college application? What are the things to include/say in that so called personal statement?

Generally, personal statements are a chance to show sides of your personality that aren’t evident from the rest of your application. If there aren’t any more specifications from the college, you can write about anything, really. Choose something you’re passionate about: someone who inspires you, for instance, or your favorite activity, or an event that shaped your life. There’s no “wrong” answer for these types of essays, as long as it displays an interesting side of your personality and is well-written

Basically it's a college essay with a topic of your choosing. Some colleges tell you the question they want you to answer, but others that just ask for a personal statement just want you to write about whatever you feel like. Personally, I wrote an essay that answered one school's specific question they asked and then used that same essay, more or less, for all the rest of my personal statements to other schools.

The committee wants to know something about you beyond SAT score and GPA. PS is a way to let you say something about yourself.
