Writing assignments?

I just wonder how students learn to complete professional writing assignments (such as reseasrch paper, statistics exploration, report, etc) at teh university.

I mean should students already know all this stuff or they gain it in their freshman year?

I was also fairly apprehensive about my first writing assignment, but I ended up taking an introductory class which helped me out a bit. Search around if your university offers a similar course which you can take in your first semester. Alternatively, try a pre-uni course on writing.

Thanks, I'll look for an intro class in my universities' courses, as I don't trust all that BS from Internet.
