    PhD in Theoretical Computer Science

    These are my stats:
    GRE (800Q, 400V, 4.0 AWA)
    Toefl 98

Undergrad GPA 3.6 (3.80 CS) from top Italian University
    Relevant MSc (3.80 GPA)

These are the universities I have applied to:
    1. MIT
    2. UC Irvine
    3. Berkeley
    4. CMU
    5. UCLA
    6. NYU
    7. Harvard
    8. San Diego

I know it is very difficult to get accepted in the specific subject and I, already, know I won't get admitted in the best I have applied to (MIT etc), however I hope I get admitted to at least one! Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

    What are your research interests?

Have you published anything? OTOH, I know it's harder to get published for more theoretical (less applied) interests like algorithms.

Did you do a thesis as part of your MS?

Thanks for replying. No, I have not published anything and you are right, its quite more difficult.

My research interests are Online algorithms, Game Theory and pure Graph Theory.

I have 1 year work experience in software industry.

2 of my recs were professors at major American universities in the past.

I have started writing my msc thesis but it will be done in June.

My BSC thesis was about Online Algorithms. I just want to be accepted to a single university (I have deleted in my mind the major ones already…)

Since most deadlines have passed for Fall 2009 PhD admissions -- and all of the deadlines have passed for top schools -- I assume you are just waiting it out. I don't know what your odds are, though. You should know by April 15th.

BTW, it seems University of Alberta is still accepting PhD applications until February 1st:

How to Apply for Graduate Studies - Department of Computing Science - University of Alberta

And, if you were interested in SUNY SB, you may want to call them to see if they will still accept applications. Their website didn't seem to be absolute about the date:

Please make sure that you submit your application before the deadline (January 15 for Fall admission and October 1 for Spring admission). Late applications may not receive full consideration, especially for financial support.

Another tip -- if you haven't already -- is to search American university (.edu) websites for the name of your university, e.g.:

site:.edu "University of Bologna" "computer science" cv OR resume PDF - Google Search
