MS in Computer Science : Admission in Canada Fall 2010

Hi guys,

I have completed my undergrad study in 2009 and want to pursue MS in Canada from fall 2010.

My profile is:

Bsc. engineering. (Computer Science and Engineering) from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology(#1 in the country).

CGPA: Overall: 3.72 (78%) [Final 2 years:3.88; Final year:3.93; Majors: 3.85]
Class Position: 22/120 (20%)
Publication: None
Research Experience:Did extensive study on network protocols(Mobile IP) as undergraduate thesis
TOEFL: 117(R30, L30, S28, W29)
GRE:Not taken yet(Due on Nov 2)
Recommendation:Hoping to get some good ones
Job Experience: Software Engineer(Microsoft .Net Platform) (6 Months)
Citizenship Status: Canadian Permanent Resident

My Target Unis are(All Canadian):

1.University of Toronto(CS or ECE)
2.University of Waterloo(CS or ECE)
3.University of British Columbia
4.University of Alberta
------------------------------
5.Queen's University
6.McMaster University
7.University of Victoria
8.University of Calgary
9.University of Western Ontario
------------------------------
10.University of Ottawa
11.Carleton University

Area of Interest(In order of preference):
1.Computer Networks
2.Software Engineering
3.Human-Computer Interaction

Now can anyone shed some light on my chance of getting admitted into any of these universities?I think 1-4 are overambitious given my academic profile, so i am more mainly focusing on 5-9. What are my chances?Besides that, should I try for the ECE departments also(For 1-4)?(They have some Distributed Systems and Software Engineering Courses)

I have heard that admission in Canada significantly differs from US (Less importance on GRE, contacting professors beforehand etc...). Can anyone give me any clue regarding this?

Thanks in advance.

Anton

Well, I see this guy from your undegrad university got some great admits, including to UBC, but his GPA was higher:

http://www.urch.com/forums/admission...tml#post162244 (PROFILES/RESULTS of the 2005 graduate applicants)

Interestingly, he turned down a stipend offer of $20k at UBC to go to Columbia without aid. (I guess he thought he would get aid at Columbia eventually and wanted to go to a U.S. university for visa issues.)

And this guy got into UMCP (!), but he had a 3.99 GPA:

http://www.urch.com/forums/admission...ed-umd-cp.html (Admitted to UMD-CP)

And a topper with a 4.0 and publications got into Cornell's PhD program:

So, anyway, you are certainly from a great university as you say, so I would be ambitious And though I certainly would have doubts about University of Toronto, that you are Canadian does make things seem more possible.

So I have taken the GRE today, I think I did fairly well. Does my score improve my chances? Any hint on any of the schools listed below?
