ABout Me & Any one else applying to C.S Ph.D in Fall 07 , please introduce yourself

So I can feel better that there are others in the same situation ...

About Me, I am currently in a M.S program in C.S (not a top program either), my GPA is just above 3.0, never taken a GRE (will do this summer, my prediction 700v 450q and 3.5a) ... kind of a relief so I won't be too disappointed if have lots of rejections :]

    Alright, you ?

    Hi Tvn,

With a score 450 in quantative, you'll not get a single admit in CS , let alone PhD.
But let us assume you tried to write (Q-700, V-450, A-3.5 ) . Most of the universities require 500 in Verbal for PhD in CS. Check the websites of some universities. Some of them require 4.0 in analytical section . It is their minimum requirement not the average mark . And also most universities accept students with a high CGPA for their PhD program .So if your CGPA is 3.1 or 3.2 , it'd be really risky for you to get an admit in PhD in CS. Besides PhD in CS require other things than GRE and CGPA.

By the way where are you doing your MS , US or other country ?
If you really did not appear GRE yet, then my suggestion is "DONOT PREDICT in GRE".
it is not like other exam we CS people generally face . I want to say more about this topic, but i feel tired now . Probably next time . Mark my words, you'll understand when you give GRE and apply universities .

I tried several post like you did here in the previous year after my GRE. But did not get a single reply . Thats why I am replying your post. Hope it helps.

I'm also applying for CS phd in Fall 07 with research focus on either Robotics or Computer Vision.

My undergrad GPA is 3.89 and my masters GPA is 4.0.
    I already took the GRE 2 years ago. I got (Q-770, V-510, A-4.5)
I have been working/researching the past 2 years at a robotics lab but no papers published yet.

that should be 700q and 450v ... I have them switched

    >With a score 450 in quantative, you'll not get a single admit in CS , let alone PhD.
    I have V and Q switched

    >Besides PhD in CS require other things than GRE and CGPA.
    That's what I am hoping for :]

All my schoolings are in the U.S. The campus is quite small (i.e., no reputation) though.

    >If you really did not appear GRE yet, then my suggestion is "DONOT PREDICT in GRE".
It's not an out of no where prediction, I based it on my performance on the practice exams

    Hi,
I'm from India. I will be applying for CS PhD(Fall 2007), specializing in Theory of Computation. I just wrote my GRE(1490=v800+q690) a few days ago. I have done my BE( Bachelor of Engineering ) from a good college in India, with an aggregate percentage of 87%. Not much research experience.

    Bye,
    Priyananda

Well 87% is a great %age, u wld have been a univ topper had u scored the same kinda marks in my college.
Well 800 in verbal is a simply faaaaabulous score, wat happened in quant?
690.. hmmm tht wld b a bit of problem in thy application, y dont u retake the GRE if u r confident abt thy verbal section?

Priyananda are you sure you too havent swapped the V and Q in your gre scores by mistake ....800 in verbal is just awesome, but making an 800 in verbal and then just a 690 in quants ....really skeptical about it. Anyways just wanted you to check if your score is mentioned correctly. BTW if u have really scored an 800 in verbal, go to the GRE section and leave some tips

Btw from which university have you done your engineering from?

oh ****! I made the same mistake as tvn! Its q800 and v690 .

I'm from VTU( Visveshwariah Tech Univ ) from karnataka. I studied in RV College of Engineering.

Theory of computation deals with analysis of algorithms.
