Schools for software engineering

Hi,
Are there any schools which are good for software engineering? and with possible funding? Talking about MS.

Well, you would think University of Texas at Austin would be good but then there's this:

Quote:
I just finished my master’s degree in software engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. It was an unusual program that allowed me to continue working full-time while I went to school. Although I’m happy to have the credential, the curriculum wasn’t all that I hoped it would be. If you’re not able or inclined to go to an engineering college, you can probably educate yourself just as well.

Zachtastic: How to Be a Software Engineer When All You've Got is a Lousy English Degree
Therefore, I think this is a more general criticism of MS programs.

Certainly, CMU has the best program around for SE, and their program emphasizes the value of working in teams on real projects. That, in turn, may downplay the value of traditional SE programs and reinforce the value of on-the-job experience.

NCSU seems to be doing good research, eg:
Automated Software Engineering Research Group@NCSU

But NCSU, like most schools, sucks at funding for MS students from what I read in these posts. If funding is your top concern, I generally recommend University of Utah for getting a TA position, but I don't know how well they do in SE.

If you haven't seen this list already, below are schools in software engineering ranked according to a calculation of the apparent quality and quantity of research publications by faculty:

Quote:
Top 50 Software Engineering Institutions Worldwide
1: Massachusetts Institute of Technology
2: Carnegie Mellon University
3: Georgia Institute of Technology
4: University of Maryland, College Park
5: Oregon State University
6: University of California, Irvine

19: Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium
19: Michigan State University
22: University of Pittsburgh
23: University of Colorado, Boulder
24: University of Texas, Dallas
25: University of Washington, Seattle

Relatedly, but more directed towards software development based on HCI research:

Quote:
The EUSES Consortium is a collaboration by researchers at Oregon State University, Carnegie Mellon University, Drexel University, Penn State University, University of Nebraska, Cambridge University, and IBM whose goal is to develop and investigate end-user software engineering technologies for enabling End Users to Shape Effective Software.

EUSES: Home
So Oregon State University is looking good, and their tuition costs seem relatively low:

Tuition Calculator, Oregon State University

If one could manage 15 credits of graduate study in a semester, the cost per credit would be about $350. For taking 9-12 credits in a semester, it seems the overall cost would be the same, with the cost per credit at about $435 for 12 credits.

I don't know, but I'm sure it's relatively small compared to practical implementation in industry. For exampe:
