A friend of mine went to UofT las summer for an ESL course, while being there he met many CS faculty to clarify some facts regarding the admission process. As I remember, he told me he has to pay for the first year tuition because not all MS students are funded. However, Funding is almost guaranteed in the second year.

Also, if I decide to go to Canada, will I be able to do my summer internship in US and finally take up a job in US?Please tell me if you know.
All the major companies have R&D labs in Canada so you can do an internship in Canada if you like . But if you want to do an internship in the States, you might want to consult with Tino on the Visa Forum (he is almost our TM attorney )

BTW, The good thing about Canada is you can get the permanent residency while studying for your MS.

From what I read on the CS PhD admissions pages, my impression is that most students get at least 30 credits for their CS MS degree, especially if it was from a US or Canadian university.

Or is it like I have to start from the scratch again (stupid question)?
Definitely not.

I'm glad that you got the interview at Toronto because that would be a great admit (no pressure ). Also, Microsoft does a lot of recruiting there from what I remember reading.

I don't know about the summer internship issue, but regarding H1Bs for working in industry, you get priority if your MS or PhD is from a US university:

http://www.urch.com/forums/computer-science-admissions/78475-phd-uc-riverside-vs-u-alberta.html#post510839

However, as stated at the link above, you also get such priority if you want to work at an educational institution in the US (or as a researcher at a U.S. non-profit or government agency).

Yeah, that certainly is better than most schools in the US. All the computer engineering students at Toronto seem to get a free ride, and I had incorrectly assumed that applied to all CS students.

Thanks Calm for your detailed answer. Could you tell me what do they ask in such telephonic conversations?

Unlike others, I've never been in such an interview since I haven't applied yet. Though they will certainly ask about things like your interests in computer science, they may just want to see how well you speak English :

More seriously:

Of course, you aren't a stalker, but any information you can arm yourself with will put you ahead of the game. I, for one, often google people who send me resumes to see if they're legit, and it might be a good idea to assume that they're doing the same for you.

So, if you haven't already, I would try to read up as much as you can at their website about their research, faculty, etc. so you can answer basic questions like: "Why do you want to come here rather than somewhere else?" You want them to feel that UToronto is your first choice. Of course, that's just part of the equation since the other issue is how much they want you

If they mention the cold weather, tell them you can't wait to go skiing or ice staking

update: I see
Ancalagon The Black is now online so hopefully he will post some words of wisdom based on his experience.
