Question What about ETH-Zurich (Swiss Federal IT - Zurich) ???

Hello all,
Is there anyone who is going to apply ETH-Zurich? or have already applied to ETH-Zurich for Computer Science MSc program? I have been admitted in their MSc program (got email, 2days back). I already know about their program and ranking (5th in Europe if I'm not wrong). I want to know more info about them. If you know something then please share it with me. Here are some notes that I found in the net

Quote:
The ETH is regularly ranked among the top universities in the world. It is placed between 3rd and 6th in Europe and between 10th and 27th in the world in international rankings by the Academic Ranking of World Universities and the Times Higher Education Supplement World University Rankings. It was also ranked 12th by the latter in both sciences and technology in 2005.

ETH Zurich has produced and attracted many famous scientists in its short history. More than twenty Nobel laureates have either studied at ETH or were awarded the Nobel prize for their work achieved at ETH, including Albert Einstein.
thanks in advance.....

CalmLogic 's dreams are becoming reality.
ETH-Zurich ranks in the 50-75 category for
Top 100 world universities in Engineering/Technology and Computer Sciences:

So it seems like a great admit. How much is the tuition? If it is as affordable as ASU or Michigan (which rank in the same category), then I would be excited

Thank you so much CalmLogic for your reply. Yes, it's rank within 50-75 for Computer Science and 27th as a university over the world which is pretty good I think.

You can also check the following link if you want, quite interesting
Results of the main ranking lists - The Ranking Forum of Swiss Universities / Ranking Results

Let me write some of their scholarship/funding information:
Quote:
The actual amount of ETH scholarships is calculated on an individual basis, taking into account any other scholarships, grants and further sources of support.ETH funding is always a complement to other funding sources, so even students who receive a maximum scholarship need to raise up to two-thirds of their living costs through other means. Students need to budget approximately CHF 18,000 in total per year for education and living costs.
Quote:
Students who receive a scholarship are also automatically entitled to waived tuition (currently CHF 1,160 per academic year).
Another interesting info, PhD applicant gets huge amount of aid like CHF 60K per year, can you imagine? But Masters student doesn't get that amount of aid.

Thank you again.

A PhD student at Gatech divided the universities in the world as following:
Quote:
For my applications, I also divided up the "rest", based primarily on the major US News list, so then it looks like this:
  1. Top 4: CMU, MIT, Berkeley and Stanford
  2. Top 13: GT and above (mostly as UTexas, UWash, Caltech, UIUC)
  3. Top 26: moslty UCLA and UC San Diego
  4. Top 40: mostly U of South California, Johns Hopkins, UC Irvine
  5. Top non-US: mostly NUS (National University of Singapore) (yes, Singapore) and ETH, Zurich (yes, Switzerland)
  6. And Budapest U (I had to dig hard for this link)
Some words about top non-US places: ETH Zurich is a world-class place, maybe on par with MIT etc. (the Top 4)

Thank you so much MDK. In the last couple of days I've also checked lots of fact of ETHZ... really it's a great university indeed.

But I think now I'm in trouble. Let me describe it more clearly

Quote:
Students who receive a scholarship are also automatically entitled to waived tuition (currently CHF 1,160 per academic year).
---> Actually it's for Excellence Scholarship, not a normal scholarship. For excellence scholarship, one has to submit research proposal and some other supporting documents to apply for a excellence scholarship. Which I didn't, I applied for other scholarship, namely financial support.

In the last couple of days, I've contacted with them and came to know that maximum scholarship amount is 5'800 CHF whereas one has to show 21'000 CHF for getting visa and resident permit. That means, a student who receive a maximum scholarship need to raise up to two-thirds of their living costs through other means, which is around 15'200 CHF. Even a student cannot work outside in their first 6 months, and there are no TA/RA/GA positions for Masters students. So I have to pay it from my own pocket

Now, what should I do now???? Decline their offer?

--> Oklahoma State University - Waiting for funding details
--> University of Texas at San Antonio - Full Fund ( 18K Stipend )

Three results are still pending, if I get none of them then ETH-Zuich will be the top rank university where I got acceptance... In that case, what should I do? Please pray for me.

Wait for the other two schools, if none of them offered you financial aid you should try to take a loan that covers ETH-Zurich monetary requirements.
