Cool Benefits of Interning at Rich Companies

At least at Oracle, they pay for your airfare, your apartment, and a rental car in addition to a competitive salary:

Quote:
Ready to take on fabulous San Francisco and surrounding area? Develop cutting-edge internet software and network with other brilliant summer interns? Expect to receive a generous monthly salary; live in a paid, fully furnished corporate apartment; drive a paid rental car (or bike if you wish); and receive paid roundtrip airfare from school.

The competition must be fierce though:

Quote:
This summer, we will hire about 35-40 outstanding interns to experience the thrill of developing cutting-edge software.

Even companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Cisco, Adobe, Yahoo etc give a good compensation package AFAIK.

Of course, the regular benefits are always there. The funda is the interns are treated as regular employees.

BTW, one small but popular company picks only 4 interns out of over 800 applicants:
Aardvark'd Trailer: Twelve Weeks with Geeks
Processing Internship Applications - Joel on Software
Recruiting the Top 1 Percent - Joel Spolsky - Fog Creek Software - Internship

(For the record, Oracle additionally provides unpaid internships at it's corporate offices throughout the U.S.)

Exactly. A reasonable stipend + travel (public) + cellphone expenses.

Responsibilities: Entire ERP/SAP implementation and planning of East Zone.

I am trying to propose a thin model where we just install core SAP + FICO and then use other web based services from smaller companies. Its sure to drive down costs and is a better way and much less expensive than installing SAP + all the modules.

Maybe this will help in B-School Strategy admissions.

Did you accept the TAMU offer already? And what about I-20? Any updates? When are you planning to travel?

Yes, I have declined UCSC, UMD, Purdue, UNO, Illinois State and U Mass Boston. I got rejected from Stern and Penn State (3 year degree not accepted).

I have accepted TAMU. I have got the confirmatory email and also emailed the graduate secretary about the next steps. I-20 is being sent. I need to pay $100 registration fees.

Compulsory orientation is on 11th- 12th of August. So I am planning on leaving on 10th August from Delhi at 2:00 AM. Which means take the last flight out of Kolkata on 9th August. Total cost is around 42K.

What about you?

Not accepted the TAMU offer yet. Thinking what to do, although chances are less for other admits. Can I accept an offer now and decline later?

About flight, I think you can get a flight from Kolkata itself for that amount directly to Houston (in either 1 or 2 stops). Which flight? Have you blocked yet?
