Unless the financial aid package covers the I20 amount, you have to show liquid cash of the difference between the I20 amount and the aid amount. Having said that, you have to show these amounts to the consular at least.

Hi,
I have a question regarding financial statements to be shown. Do we need to show the amount (including tuition, living exp. etc.) for one year or two years ? I am asking this for M.S. (CS) application. Thanks, |

Hey guys,
Can someone provide me with the information about the number of graduate(phd) applicants, the number rejected or the acceptance rates of the following schools for CS? UC Berkeley Stanford Yale Princeton And another thing, I find very few people have mentioned Harvard as a prospect in their university lists in this forum. Am I just mistaken or is there a reason behind this? I'm still struggling to put up my university list so hope someone can help me with these. Thanx to anyone who is kind enough to answer. ![]() |

I have no idea about about Yale or Princeton. You may want to ask them.
UC Berkeley -- I don't know for sure, but it's obviously crazy. Maybe 5 percent plus or minus 2 based on what I have read. Stanford's acceptance rate for the CS PhD is 10 percent. That's what Stanford says on one of their publications. Regarding Harvard, which ranks well for theory, I do see this very believable comment from Edulix: Quote:

I remember reading a percentage of 50% about Yale, but it was for Master's. Anyways, an old post by Gforce showed that the acceptance rate was below 10%:

"If Berkeley is your preferred choice for graduate study, and you believe that you have superior qualifications, then we encourage you to apply. However, you should be aware that admissions are very competitive. Most successful applicants last year had GPAs above 3.7 and GRE quantitative scores above 90%. Many successful Computer Science applicants took the GRE Computer Science Subject test and scored above 90%. For Fall 2006 we had approximately 2500 applicants for about 75 slots." I believe this is for MS and PhD considered together.
"Applicants need to be aware that this is a small department admitting about 8 new Ph.D. students, and from 5 to 15 new masters students each fall." This is from Yale. No way that their masters accept rate is 50%. I'm fairly certain Stanford is less than 10% because I was told that they had 1500 applicants this year. (I was rejected) For 2006-2007, the acceptance rate for Harvard's engineering school, where the CS department is housed, was 13.4%. I presume CS has a similar acceptance rate. |

With regards to Princeton, when I was investigating them it seems they dramatically favor international students from IITs, Tsinghua University, and Sharif University of Technology, since these universities together account for the majority of their grad students who have posted profiles. So if you go to one of these universities, you're in luck, otherwise it may be prudent to look elsewhere and save your application fee.

Hey guys,
Thanks so much for those information. They were very helpful. As I'm taking the toefl(PBT) on May 10th, I have to list 4 universities in my admission card. So I've decided to go with four ambitious schools for that. It's most likely going to be NCSU, Northeastern, NJIT and Duke. I guess I'll wait for my GRE scores when I take the test in October to think about the dream schools I'm going to apply. Thanks again for your thoughts Keep up the good work ![]() |
